The lakehouse was a unique project in which the client had us evaluate whether to completely remodel their current lakefront home or demolish it and build from scratch. After much debate and weighing the pros and cons, the decision was made to demo and build a new home on the existing site to achieve exactly what was desired for this type of project and investment.

The first step we took as designers was to establish how the client wanted to live in the new home regarding overall size, living areas, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, flex areas, home office, outdoor living, etc. And then determine the exterior and interior aesthetics that would reflect personal style and taste. With those decisions made, the next phase was to engage an architect to present him with the client’s vision for new construction. Having solidified much of the client’s needs beforehand made it easier for the architect to create a custom home without guesswork or wasting time proposing different plan options and elevations. 

Although this was a new build, the goal was to make the home look like an established home with a lot of charm and character found in older homes, specifically lakeside homes. The exterior was classic with pitched roof lines, exposed wood beams, metal roofing, dormers, and a welcoming courtyard entry with a fireplace. Inside, the design reflects the client’s love of color and vintage touches that give the home a lived-in look.

The kitchen is the best example of how we designed the interior that had all the character of the past with black and white marble floors, and custom-painted cabinets mixed with wood cabinets that resembled furniture pieces. Wood plank ceilings with beams, custom brass hood, vintage style lighting, and a custom wall mural for a touch of whimsy.

Throughout the home, color and character prevailed through our careful selections of materials, finishes, fixtures, and lighting. The final result was everything and more that the client wanted and could ever dream of.  

The next phase is to furnish this grand lakeside home.
